Samburu National reserve has several rare species including Grevy’s zebra, the Somali ostrich, reticulated giraffe, the long-necked generuk, Guenther’s dik-dik, and the beisa oryx.
Our professional safari driver will pick you up from the airport or hotel in Nairobi and bring you to your safari briefing. After this short introduction you will be on your way. From Nairobi you will enjoy a scenic drive providing breathtaking views of the Kenyan landscape. Along the way you will stop for lunch in the town of Nanyuki.
In the afternoon you will arrive at your accommodations where you will have time to rest before heading out for an evening game drive in Samburu National Park. Samburu protects an area of semi-arid savannah extending from the lovely Ewaso Nyero River. The reserve is made up of riverine forest along the water and dry acacia scrub peppered with termite mounds. Koitogor Hill marks the middle of the reserve. Evening is a great time to spot these animals as they are out eating their diner before it gets dark and they retreat to the safety of their habitat.
After the drive you will return to your accommodation for an authentic African dinner. After dinner there will be a bonfire where you can meet other travelers and swap stories about your safari adventure. Then it is off to bed for a good night’s sleep.
After breakfast you will head out for a full day safari game drive. Samburu provides one of the few sanctuaries in Kenya for the endangered Grevy’s zebra, the rare beisa oryx and the blue-shanked Somali ostrich. It also has large herds of elephant that roam the hills.
During the drive, your guide will introduce you to the lifestyle and behaviors of each animal you see and answer any questions you have. This park offers designated areas where you will be able to enjoy a picnic lunch right out in the open. After lunch it is time to continue with the safari game drive. [Optional: Visit the Masai Village where you can discover the tribal culture and interact with local people. A glimpse into their homes and social structure is a poignant experience.]
