Masai Mara is the most popular park in Kenya as it contains all of the big 5 (lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, and leopard) and it is home to the great wildebeest migration. Lake Nakuru is a bird lover’s dream. Here you will find over 400 species of birds, over 500 species of plants, and more than 50 species of mammals. Aberdare is steeped forested ravines and open moorland that provides a rich habitat for elephants, black rhinos, leopards, spotted hyenas, baboons, colobus monkeys, and many other wildlife. 5 Day Safari Kenya Itinerary Day 1: Our professional safari driver will pick you up from the airport or hotel in Nairobi and bring you to your safari briefing. After this short introduction you will be on your way. From Nairobi you will enjoy a scenic drive through volcanic mountains and lakes providing breathtaking views of the Kenyan landscape. Along the way you will stop at The Great Rift Valley for photographs and then on to the town of Narok for lunch. In the afternoon you will arrive at your accommodations where you will have time to rest before heading out for an evening game drive in Masai Mara National Game Reserve (the jewel of Africa). The Masai Mara is home to the “Big 5” – lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, and rhino – along with over 90 other animals and over 400 species of birds. Evening is a great time to spot these animals as they are out eating their diner before it gets dark and they retreat to the safety of their habitat. After the drive you will return to your accommodation for an authentic African dinner. After dinner there will be a bonfire where you can meet other travelers and swap stories about your safari adventure. Then it is off to bed for a good night’s sleep. Day 2: After breakfast you will head out for a full day safari game drive. [Optional: Take a hot air balloon ride over the reserve as part of your morning game drive. This is an amazing way to see the animals up close.] On this day you will get to go up to the Mara River to see the crocodiles and hippopotamus. Along other parts of the river you will see a variety of animals coming to get a drink of water. During the drive, your guide will introduce you to the lifestyle and behaviors of each animal you see and answer any questions you have. This park offers designated areas where you will be able to enjoy a picnic lunch right out in the open. After lunch it is time to continue with the safari game drive. [Optional: Visit the Masai Village where you can discover the tribal culture and interact with local people. A glimpse into their homes and social structure is a poignant experience.] After the drive you will return to your accommodation for a well-earned rest before enjoying another an authentic African dinner. After dinner there will be a bonfire where you can meet other travelers and swap stories about your safari adventure. Then it is off to bed for a good night’s sleep. Day 3: Today you will begin early. After a quick hot drink, it is off for a morning safari game drive. All the animals are out in the morning, searching for breakfast, so it is the perfect time for your drive. The abundance of animals at Masai Mara makes it possible for you to see the greatest variety of African wildlife. After the drive you will return to your accommodation for a full breakfast before checking out. You will then proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park. Along the way you will pass Mount Longonot and see beautiful landscapes. There will be a short stop for lunch in Mai Mahiu. In the evening you will arrive at your accommodation where you will have time to rest before enjoying another authentic African dinner. Then it is off to bed for a good night’s sleep. Day 4: Today you will begin early. After a full breakfast, it is off for a morning safari game drive. All the animals are out in the morning, searching for breakfast, so it is the perfect time for your drive. The park is famous for its millions of pink flamingos lining the lake shore. In addition, the lake is a central gathering spot for more than 50 mammals. Leaving Lake Nakuru you will continue on to Aberdare National Park. You will arrive at the Ark Tree Lodge, located in the forest on mountain slopes of the Aberdare Mountains at 7,000 feet. This outstanding lodge offers high altitude game viewing, including animals that are rarely encountered elsewhere. Wildlife can be observed from different levels – and from outside where you can see, hear and smell everything. The lodge is an experience not to be missed as you can get very close to the animals from the safety of the balcony. This will be your last evening to experience an authentic African dinner before heading to bed. But note, you can request to be awakened during the night if your favorite animal comes to visit. Day 5: Today is a special treat. While you are enjoying a full breakfast on the balcony, you can watch for rare sightings of the Giant Forest hog, bongo, golden cat, serval cat, African wild cat, African civet cat, and the blue duiker. Later in the morning drive you will head back to Nairobi. You will stop at the town of Mai Mahiu for lunch. Our driver will deliver you back to the airport or your hotel where you can say your goodbyes. Note: During July through October you may also see the Great Wildebeest Migration take place here.
